As a hard landscaper in Portsmouth, most of our work is the part you never see once it is finished. A patio or driveway is only as good as what sits under it, so every job starts with a dig-out to the right depth, a compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base and a laying course set to a proper fall. Get that right and the surface stays flat, drains properly and does not sink at the edges two winters later.

Complete garden makeovers — levels, lawns, borders, turf, planting beds and the hard surfaces that tie it all together.
Garden landscaping is where the whole space gets rethought rather than patched. We take gardens that have got away from their owners, clear them back to bare ground, sort the levels and drainage, then rebuild with a mix of lawn, paving and planting that suits how you actually use the space. Small courtyards in Southsea through to family gardens in Cosham and Waterlooville.

A patio should still be flat in ten years. Ours are laid on a full wet mortar bed over a compacted sub-base — never five dabs of mortar under each slab, which is the usual reason slabs rock, crack or come loose. Porcelain gets a slurry primer so it actually bonds. Joints are filled with a brush-in compound that resists weeds without going brittle.

Block paving is still the most practical driveway surface in Portsmouth — it takes the weight, individual blocks can be lifted and re-laid if a service needs digging up, and it looks right on almost any house. Herringbone is the pattern that resists vehicle movement best, which is why we lay it on driveways as standard and keep the neater bonds for paths and patios.
Seamless, permeable resin-bound surfacing — smooth underfoot, no loose stones and no weeds coming through.
Resin-bound surfacing is stone mixed with clear resin and trowelled out to a smooth, seamless finish. Because it stays permeable, rainwater drains straight through instead of running off onto the pavement. It works over a suitable existing base or a new one we lay for you, and it is the easiest driveway surface to keep clean — a brush and an occasional wash is genuinely all it needs.

Not every job is a whole garden. A lot of what we do is the smaller practical stuff — a path down the side of the house that stops turning to mud, a level base for a shed or hot tub, a bin store off the driveway, or extending an existing patio and matching the slabs in. Same groundwork standards, whatever the size.
Closeboard, feather-edge and panel fencing on concrete or timber posts, set plumb and properly concreted in.
Fencing on the south coast takes a beating, so how the posts go in matters more than the panels do. We set posts in concrete to the right depth, use gravel boards to keep timber out of wet ground, and line everything through so the run is straight and level. Old fencing and the concrete footings come away with us.
Retaining walls, boundary walls and raised beds in brick, block or sleepers — built on real footings.
Garden walls fail for one of two reasons: no proper footing, or no way for water to get out from behind them. We dig and pour a concrete footing below the frost line, and retaining walls get a drainage layer and weep holes so water pressure never builds up behind the brickwork. Sloping gardens across Portsdown Hill get terraced this way all the time.
The removals half of the business — garden clearances, waste, rubble and timber taken away and the site left swept.
Clearance is where a lot of our landscaping jobs begin, and it is a service in its own right. Overgrown gardens, old decking and fence panels, sheds, rubble, general household junk — it gets loaded, taken away and disposed of, and you get the space back. No job too big or too small, as the sign says.
